The visual identity for the exhibition “Zavičaj kao vrelo nadahnuća: tradicija dalmatinske zagore u umjetnosti Ivana Meštrovića” (transl. Homeland as a Source of Inspiration: Tradition of the Dalmatian Hinterland in the Art of Ivan Meštrović) was prepared for the Ivan Meštrović Gallery in Split. The branding included:
- A poster design
- Eight posters for the exhibition space
- An exhibition catalog
- Digital reconstruction of notes from Ivan Meštrović’s notebook
- Preparation and design of the notebook containing Meštrović’s reconstructed manuscripts
- Preparation of legends for the exhibited artworks
The visual identity was carefully crafted based on art historical knowledge and research into the exhibition’s theme.
The color palette was adopted from traditional folk costumes of Drniš, with orange chosen as the dominant color to attract the viewer’s eye.
The exhibition poster and catalog feature a depiction of Meštrović’s Mother in the foreground and a pattern of the Drniš cap in the background. The composition is reminiscent of the poster for the famous Meštrović – Rački exhibition from 1910.
The exhibition’s visual identity was designed to reflect elements of tradition and folklore, the Secession characteristics of the poster that served as inspiration, and a contemporary approach to interpreting Meštrović’s works.
Client testimonial:
I worked with Dora on preparing my exhibition “Zavičaj kao vrelo nadahnuća” organized by the Meštrović Gallery in Split. Dora did a great job in creating the complete and coherent graphic design of the exhibition that expresses the spirit of the topic, which is folklore and tradition. It was very pleasant to work with her as she is very detail-oriented and punctual, and she met the deadline with no problem. What I liked the most was that she was very patient and respected my ideas and visions from the start until the end of our collaboration. She has a very humanistic approach to work and collaboration. Highly recommend! :)
